This Moscow Mule Mocktail captures everything you love about the classic cocktail — the sharp bite of ginger beer, the bright citrus punch of fresh lime juice, and that refreshing effervescence — without any alcohol. Ready in just 5 minutes with a handful of ingredients, it's the perfect sophisticated non-alcoholic option for brunch, dinner parties, or any time you want something more special than water.
1fresh mint spriggently slap between palms before using to release oils
1lime wheel or wedgefor garnish and extra citrus oils
Instructions
Place your copper mug or highball glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes to chill thoroughly. While it chills, wash and dry the lime and mint, slice a lime wheel for garnish, and gently slap the mint sprig between your palms to release its oils.
Cut your lime in half across the equator and use a citrus juicer to extract approximately 2 tablespoons of juice. Strain through a fine mesh strainer if desired to remove pulp and seeds.
Fill your chilled copper mug to the top with ice cubes, then pour the fresh lime juice over the ice. Add simple syrup, grated ginger, and/or bitters now if using, and stir gently to combine.
Slowly pour the chilled ginger beer down the side of the mug to preserve carbonation, filling to about half an inch from the rim. Do not stir after adding the ginger beer.
Insert the mint sprig upright into the drink and place the lime wheel on the rim of the mug. Serve immediately while the ginger beer is still fizzy and cold.
Notes
Always use fresh lime juice — bottled lime juice cannot match the bright, authentic flavor of freshly squeezed.
Choose a quality ginger beer with real ginger listed in the ingredients (not artificial flavoring). Fever-Tree or Q Drinks are excellent options.
Don't skip the ice — fill your glass completely to keep the drink cold and slow dilution.
Never stir after adding the ginger beer, as this releases carbonation and flattens the drink.
Roll your lime firmly on the counter before cutting to break down the internal membranes and get more juice.
For a less sweet mocktail, skip the simple syrup and add an extra squeeze of lime. Diet ginger beer or a splash of sparkling water also works.
For a crowd, make a pitcher of lime juice and simple syrup ahead of time, then have guests add ice and ginger beer to individual glasses when ready.
Try fun variations: muddle raspberries or cucumber for a fruity or spa-inspired twist, or add jalapeño slices for a spicy kick.
Pre-squeezed lime juice keeps in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Simple syrup keeps refrigerated for up to 1 month.
Angostura bitters are listed as optional — omit entirely if you need a 100% alcohol-free drink.
